Particle Physics and Field Theory

The study of the elementary constituents of matter and their interactions has been transformed by a series of revolutionary theoretical and experimental discoveries. These include the discovery of the quark substructure of matter, the development of fundamental theories of the strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions based on gauge symmetries, and the discovery of superstring theory, which provides the first consistent theoretical unification of all four fundamental forces including gravity.
