Open House, April 22nd, 2005
This was an open house for elementary school aged kids, held on a PD day. Even so, many classes came up. The attendance was in the hundreds, and the activities were divided into three parts:
Workshops: Light and Color Workshop Light and Optics Workshop Sound Workshop Magnetism Workshop States of Matter Workshop
Lounges: All manner of science toys were loosed on the Bio-phys and Bio-chem lounges. These can be obtained by asking Jeff Rudd (rudd@sfu.ca) or Sara Swenson (saras@fas.sfu.ca). Also, Leigh Palmer agreed to be the "Ask a physicist..." guy. A DVD player was setup in the hallway and was playing Looney Toons, which nobody under 19 seemed to watch. The Bio-chem lounge was a little too far away and was frequently empty. Outside, in the Bio-phys courtyard, bubble things were set up and kids could just blow bubbles. The two volunteers who manned this station were quite sunburnt by the end, and could have used replacements. GPS tours departed regularly, following preprogrammed waypoints around the university.
