Poste de professeur(e) adjoint(e) menant à la permanence

Enseignement en langue française

 

Le département de Science politique de l’Université Simon Fraser, Burnaby, Colombie-Britannique, sollicite des candidatures pour un poste au rang de professeur(e) adjoint(e) menant à la permanence pour enseigner dans le Programme en administration publique et services communautaires – qu’on appelle aussi le French Cohort Program (FCP).  L’enseignement doit être assuré en langue française. Les candidats ou candidates doivent détenir un doctorat au moment de l’entrée en fonction, avoir un solide dossier de recherche concernant les questions relatives à la gouvernance (analyse des politiques et/ou administration publique) principalement au niveau canadien mais un intérêt pour une perspective comparative ou globale serait un atout. Les candidats ou candidates doivent aussi démontrer un engagement manifeste envers la recherche et l’enseignement.

Le candidat retenu ou la candidate retenue devra donner des cours de 1er cycle qui portent sur le gouvernement canadien ainsi que sur l’administration publique/les politiques publiques.  Un intérêt pour l’enseignement de cours portant sur les services communautaires et sur des projets orientés vers les communautés francophones en milieu minoritaire sera retenu comme un atout.

Political Science
Assistant Professor Tenure-track Position
with teaching responsibilities in French


The Department of Political Science at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British-Columbia, invites applications for an Assistant Professor Tenure-track position to teach in the Program in Public Administration and Community Services –also known as the French Cohort Program (FCP). The language of instruction in the courses is French.  For more information on the FCP, see www.sfu.ca/frcohort.

 

Applicants should have a completed PhD at the commencement of the appointment, a well-developed research program in Canadian governance (public policy and/or public administration) but an interest in comparative and global perspectives would be an asset.  Applicants should also demonstrate evidence of potential for excellence in research and teaching.

 

The successful candidate must be able to teach courses at the undergraduate level in Canadian government and public administration/public policy.  An interest in teaching courses on community consultation and community-based projects in a francophone minority environment would be an asset.

 

The appointment will begin 1 September 2012.

Applications are due no later than Friday 10 February 2012, and must include: (1) a letter of application outlining the candidate's qualifications; (2) the candidate's curriculum vitae; (3) one article-length sample of candidate's scholarly work; (4)  a teaching portfolio with one undergraduate course syllabus and one detailed lesson plan; (5) the names of three referees, at least one of whom can comment on the candidate's teaching ability and capacity to teach in French, and on the high level quality of  the candidate’s French language (spoken and written), in addition to their scholarly qualifications. If available, other evidence of teaching performance such as course evaluations is welcome. Candidates must contact their referees and have their referees' letters sent directly to the Chair, to be received by Friday 10 February 2012.

Instructors are responsible for presentation of course material, consultation with students and the assignment of grades. Sessional instructors shall hold a graduate degree (PhD preferred), or equivalent qualification in the field of his/her assignment. Cover letter and CV, * to be submitted, as well as evidence of teaching ability commensurate with the responsibility of teaching of the assigned course and of carrying out the duties related to the effective conduct of that course.

 

Successful applicants must design their course, and carry out its delivery according to the guidelines established by the Department. For lower division courses , in addition to presenting the weekly lectures, instructors are normally responsible for teaching one section of the weekly tutorials (unless otherwise requested, this will be the first tutorial following the lecture), required of students and for supervising Teaching Assistants who will conduct the other tutorials.

 

 

For distance ed courses, the course supervisor (CP) meets with the TM at the beginning and regularly throughout the semester to establish standards and techniques for grading, to complete the Time Use Guidelines (TUG) and to support in the event other issues arise.  The CP also attends to assist the TM at examinations.
