Embracing intercultural collaboration and education

June 05, 2013

Check out this terrific, student-produced video promoting the upcoming Indian Summer Festival:

For the past three years, SFU has hosted this popular festival, celebrating the close cultural connections between India and Canada. This year it runs from July 4-13.

It’s just one of the many ways in which SFU is promoting intercultural understanding and engaging the world.

Among the recent interesting and worthwhile initiatives and projects that reflect these commitments are The Komagata Maru Incident Project, a comprehensive digital archive of this unfortunate 1914 event, and the Institute for Diaspora Research and Engagement, which builds on the highly successful Engaging Diaspora in Development dialogues and will strengthen ties amongst diaspora individuals, communities, organizations and researchers.

As our Strategic Vision states, SFU is committed to celebrating cultural diversity, and valuing international knowledge, understanding and engagement.

To that end, our new International Engagement Strategy will ensure that we provide the richest and most diverse learning and research environments for our faculty and staff.

It will enable us to build more meaningful connections with the multicultural communities of Metro Vancouver. And it will help foster engagement and understanding among people with diverse backgrounds.
