C2UExpo 2017: For the Common Good engages and inspires

Congratulations to all at Simon Fraser University who were responsible for organizing and delivering last week’s wonderful C2UExpo 2017: For the Common Good.

From the Community Jam pre-conference in Surrey to the Walk the Talk main conference in Vancouver, SFU hosted an extraordinary week of speakers, workshops, events and activities. Hundreds of delegates from across Canada and around the globe gathered to share their knowledge and experiences, and to seek new ways to advance partnerships between post-secondary institutions and communities.

I was also pleased to host a roundtable with presidents of Canadian universities and foundation representatives exploring how post-secondary institutions might increase their contributions to building social infrastructure in Canada.

Presented by SFU and the JW McConnell Foundation, C2UExpo was not just a forum for discussing campus-community engagement, it was also a venue for practicing it. Approximately half of the delegates came from community settings, and the conference also benefited from a Community Ambassadors Program.

Thanks to everyone from near and far who came and participated in C2UExpo 2017. As we head back to our campuses and communities, I hope that you are as inspired as I am to continue our work and to build upon our momentum.
