SFU Vancouver opens doors to learning
Dubbed the “intellectual heart” of the city by the Vancouver Sun, SFU’s Vancouver campus exemplifies our vision to be an engaged university by enriching the urban landscape with inspiring educational programs, cutting-edge research, business acceleration, social innovation, and contemporary arts.
With eight facilities – making us the largest post-secondary presence in the city – we are excited to host SFU Vancouver's Open Learning Week from November 15-21.
The week kicks off on November 15 with a special Vancouver Speakers Series event on The Future of Learning featuring the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Ashoka U, Marina Kim. Presented in partnership with SFU Public Square and the Vancity Office of Community Engagement, Marina will be joined by SFU Education Dean Kris Magnusson to discuss the role of universities in ensuring their graduates have the knowledge and capacities to succeed in a world characterized by economic, social, and environmental change.
Throughout the week we will hold information sessions on many of SFU Vancouver’s exciting educational offerings, in areas such as business, gerontology and liberal studies.
Other highlights of Open Leaning Week include:
- A Film Screening of Ann Marie Fleming's Window Horses (November 16);
- A Philosophers’ Café on “Morally good. Ethically right. What's the difference?” (November 17);
- The Audain Exhibition Tour with curator Melanie O'Brian in Dialogue with art historian Jeff O'Brien (November 18);
- A Workshop on “Student Mental Health and Well-being: Considerations for Teaching” (November 21);
Most events are free. For the complete schedule visit: sfu.ca/content/sfu/vancouver/welcome/news-events/events/olw/schedule.html
Please join us for what promises to be an engaging and inspiring week showcasing the diverse people, programs and partnerships that characterise SFU’s vibrant Vancouver campus.
