Hello again! Well, Friday Aug 8 was our Physics Day of Fun, and judging from the participation I think we can call it a success. Sorry for the long follow-up time, but better late than never. Here is a summary of the events: *Undergrad Poster Session* Many people came outside to take a look at what the summer students have been up to these past months. Our judges commented that they had a very difficult time choosing the winning posters. It was clear that a lot of work went into both the research and presentations. The winners were: 1st Place: Ryan Thomas (Haljan) 2nd Place: Jos One (Forde) 3rd Place: Cisco Gooding (Frolov) Congratulations to you three, as well as to all the participants. Thanks also to our judges: Ricky Chu, David Lackner, Michelle Lee, and Dugan O'Neil. *Faculty vs Students Baseball Game* Although I'd like to report a landslide win by the students, unfortunately the faculty won again this year. The reported score was Faculty: 13, Students: 8. This puts the wins to a tie at 2-2. Next year will be a big game! *BBQ *Another great turn-out! We gobbled about 60 burgers, 20 smokies, and 12 shrimp kabobs and drank several tubs full of beer (thanks to faculty for their contributions again). Thanks to everyone who helped with organizing, setup, and clean-up. The clean-up seemed to go very fast because so many people were helping! Thanks to everyone who brought yummy food for the BBQ as well! We definitely had enough food. Keep watching for the welcome back BBQ info in a couple of weeks. >From the organizing committee (Elena, Sebastian, Dave O., Dave Lee, Jen) -- Bianca Beaulieu Office Assistant Department of Physics Simon Fraser University 8888 University Drive Burnaby, BC V5A 1S6 Tel: 778.782.4465 Fax: 778.782.3592
