Steven Brown, Ph.D.
cognitive neuroscientist
& neuroartsologist

I am a cognitive neuroscientist working in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby (Vancouver), British Columbia.

My research is devoted to analyzing the neural basis of human communication processes, including speech, music, gesture, dance, and emotion, with a focus on motor production, generativity, and creativity in these areas.

A major objective of my research program is to develop a general neuroscientific approach to the arts, what I call neuroartsology.

My studies employ the analytical techniques of human brain imaging, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), as well as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
