My research is devoted to analyzing the neural basis of human communication processes, including speech, music, gesture, dance, and emotion, with a focus on motor production, generativity, and creativity in these areas. A major objective of my research program is to develop a general neuroscientific approach to the arts, what I call neuroartsology. My studies employ the analytical techniques of human brain imaging, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), as well as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
