Low-Cost Group Therapy

- Are you a female?

- Do your emotions often feel out of control?

- Do you often feel empty inside?

- Do you have stormy relationships?

Although we know there are several useful treatments for these difficulties, we are researching how specific treatments affect specific symptoms.

If this study is a good match for you, you could receive up to 6 weeks of group therapy by participating in research.

Predictors of Deliberate Self-Harm Over Time

Deliberate self-harm (DSH) is the deliberate self-infliction of injury without the intent to die (i.e., not an attempt to commit suicide).

We are interested in how emotions, life experiences, stress and coping styles affect self-harm. We hope that this research will help other people understand more about why people self-harm and what they can do to help.

We are looking for people who currently self-harm (whether you are trying to stop or not), AND those who have self-harmed in the past and quit.  You must be at least 16 years old to participate in this study. Participants will be asked to complete online questionnaires, and entered into a draw, where they can earn one of five prizes for $150.

To participate in this study, or to find out more, please contact our Participant Coordinator Natalie at chapman_lab@sfu.ca or 778-782-8776.

Emotion Regulation in Daily Life

- Have you been depressed in the past year?

- Or, have you strugged with out of control emotions, feelings of emptiness, or stormy relationships?

We are interested in how different ways of managing your emotions may help people cope in their daily lives. This research involves an in-person interview, learning a particular strategy in our lab at SFU, and practicing that strategy in your daily life, recording how you feel on a handheld computer (Palm Pilot). We will compensate your for your time, up to $75.

To participate in this study, or to find out more, please contact one of our phone interviewers at emotion@sfu.ca or 778-782-5590.

Online Emotion Questionnaire Study

We are interested in the relationship between people's personality characteristics, social experiences, and coping styles.

Participants will be asked to complete 1-1.5 hours of questionnaires online, from the comfort of your own home. We will compensate you $5 for your time.

To participate in this study, or to find out more, please contact our Participant Coordinator Natalie at chapman_lab@sfu.ca or 778-782-8776.
