Why would I participate in a psychology research study?

Psychological research puts a great emphasis on knowledge regarding disorders and interventions that are based on sound evidence. High quality research is the best way to gather that evidence. In order to conduct research studies, we need participants to volunteer. Thus, the advancement of our understanding of autism and other developmental disorders depends on the participation of volunteers in our research projects.

Some reasons why I may want to consider participating:
  • updated information about our ongoing research, recent findings, as well as other exciting news in the field
  • access to educational and community resources
  • direct contact to researchers and staff who can give you educated answers to any questions you may have
  • contribute to research that helps to identify and intervene in ways that will maximally benefit the development of individuals with ASD and other developmental disorders, as well as typically developing children

Be assured that participation in our studies is completely voluntary and all information collected is absolutely confidential. All our research have been approved by the SFU ethics committee to ensure participants' care and safety.

Our goal at the end of the day is that you and your family have a enjoyable experience with us.

Children without developmental disabilities are welcomed to participate, too (for example, siblings and friends).

If you would like to participate in a study or if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us via phone (604)268-6746 or via email (autism-lab@sfu.ca).
