Emotional Processing of Faces

What we want to know.

Research has shown that people pay particular attention to expressions in other people's faces as this provides important social information. It is less clear, however, if children show similar patterns of attention and at what age they learn to do so.

We are interested in knowing how preschool aged children react to faces displaying different emotions. We also want to know if a child's temperament plays a role in their reaction to emotional expressions.

About the study.

In this study, children will participate in a picture vocabulary game and a fun computer game. Parents will be asked to complete some short questionnaires describing their child. As a thank you for participating in the study, families will receive a $20 honorarium and children will receive a small toy and a certificate.

The study takes about 45 minutes.
