What we want to know.
Young children have characteristic temperamental styles, believed to
have a biological basis, that influence how they interact with the
world. Although there is a large body of literature on
temperament and its effect on children's social functioning, much less
is known about how temperament and its emotional correlates effect
physical functioning in children. In our study we are interested
in learning more about what role temperament plays in children's poor
health (e.g., frequent complaints of bodily dysfunctions, stomach
aches, headaches).
About the study.
Mothers will speak briefly to a member of our research team to answer a
few questions about their child’s health and temperament before
participating in the study. Participating mothers and their
children will spend approximately one hour in the Children's Social
Emotional Development Lab at Simon Fraser University. Mothers
will be asked to fill out some questionnaires while their child
completes a short computer task and a set of questionnaires.
Children will receive a small prize for their participation.
Who are we looking for?
We are recruiting mothers and their children aged 9 to 12 years
old. We are particularly interested in children who have
frequent physical complaints (e.g., headaches, stomach aches, pains,
etc). We are also interested in children who do not often
complain of physical discomfort.

will contact you to arrange time, confirm interest and answer any
questions you may have.
