Emotional Processing of Faces

What we want to know.

Research has shown that people pay particular attention to expressions in other people's faces as this provides important social information. It is less clear, however, if children show similar patterns of attention and at what age they learn to do so.

We are interested in knowing how preschool aged children react to faces displaying different emotions. We also want to know if a child's own temperament plays a role in their reaction to emotional expressions.

About the study.

In this study, children will play a series of computer games in which they will see adult faces. They will be asked to press a button when a particular image appears on the screen. Parents will be asked to complete some short questionnaires describing their child.

The study takes about one-half hour.
