Frequently Asked Questions
I am an undergraduate student at SFU interested in joining the PIE lab. How do I get involved?
We are always interested in hearing from undergraduate students who are keen to learn more about research and get some hands-on experience! If you are interested in volunteering in the PIE lab, please complete the online application form and attach your unoffical transcript. Alternatively you can download the application here and send that along with your unofficial transcript to the Lab Manager, Diana Negrabee (dna34@sfu.ca) and Dr. Adele (aquigley@sfu.ca).
If there are spaces available in the lab, you will be sent more information about getting involved soon after your email is received. If the lab is currently full, you will be added to the list of people we will contact when a space opens up.
I am an undergraduate at SFU and I am interested in completing Research Engagement (PSYC 393), a Directed Study (PSYC 493/494/495), or Honours (PSYC499) in the PIE lab under Dr. Adele’s supervision. How do I apply?
First, check whether you are eligible for these courses on the SFU Psychology website:
Research Engagement: https://www.sfu.ca/psychology/undergraduate/course-information/research-engagement.html
Directed Studies: https://www.sfu.ca/psychology/undergraduate/course-information/directed-studies.html
Honours Requirements: https://www.sfu.ca/psychology/undergraduate/programs/honours.html
If you are unsure, you can also contact the Psyc Advising team at psycadvs@sfu.ca.
Then, if you are eligible, please go through the same process as is specified for volunteering in the lab, but make it clear in your email which of the above courses you are interested in pursuing.
I am interested in pursuing a Graduate degree in Psychology under Dr. Adele’s supervision. What should I do?
You should carefully review the information on the SFU Psychology website pertaining to Graduate Studies in Law & Forensic Psychology – Experimental (https://www.sfu.ca/psychology/about/areas-of-study/law---forensic-psychology.html).
If you are still interested, please email Dr. Adele (aquigley@sfu.ca) and attach your CV, Transcript, and provide a brief description of the types of research you would like to conduct for your Master's and/or Ph.D.
How many hours do I need to commit for this lab?
We expect a minimum of 3 hours of committment per week in order to continue volunteering as a Research Assistant.
Do I need a minimum GPA to join the PIE lab?
There is no minimum GPA to join the PIE lab (unless you wish to complete an Honours year or Directed Study). However, your GPA and your educational experience may restrict what tasks you can be involved in when volunteering with the lab.
I still have more questions.
If your question has not been answered, we recommend you read through our lab syllabus. If you can't find the answer to your question, you can contact us.
