Work in the 21st Century: Innovations in Research
Research doesn’t just live in libraries and academic papers; it has a profound impact on our day to day lives. Work in the 21st Century is a dynamic evening that showcases the SFU researchers and entrepreneurs who are leading the way in making innovative impacts in the new world of work.
Is your research making work more productive, safe, equitable, and/or inclusive? Is it addressing the question of how we can all thrive in the changing world of work? Do you have findings to share? Are you an SFU student, alumnus, faculty, staff member, or a community partner with a connection to SFU?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, we want to hear from you!
We are now accepting submissions for presenters for this interactive showcase taking place on February 26. There are three ways to participate: display/exhibit, storytelling, or both.
Interactive Displays / Exhibits
Show your work with an interactive display, exhibit or model. This is an opportunity to present the results of your research in a relaxed, conversational setting with a diverse audience including peers, potential employers and funders, community partners, and the community.
Would you rather tell than show? The storytelling showcase is for you. Take the stage in front of a crowd and spend 5 minutes describing your outcomes and the impact of your work.
Your presentation should explain the purpose of your research in lay language and focus on the impact your work has, or could have, on the changing world of work. Co-presentations by researchers and community members are encouraged. Including a testimonial or proof of concept is a powerful way to illustrate impact.
Criteria for Selection
We are encouraging as many students, alumni, staff, faculty and SFU-linked community members as possible to submit presentations for this event. The considerations for selection include the following:
- Theme - Does the research address an issue related to the Community Summit theme “Brave New Work: How we can all thrive in the changing world of work”.
- Inclusion - Are a variety of faculties, programs, centres and partnerships represented?
- Relevance to the community - How does your research/project serve the broader community? What impact has it had or may have? (Community members who have participated or been impacted by research are welcome to present or co-present with SFU researcher).
- Quantity - We have limited space for exhibits and presenters, be we will do our best to accommodate as many as we can.
