Igali’s dream

Olympic wrestler Daniel Igali, a graduate student in criminology, realized a lifelong dream to build a school in his home village of Eniwari in Africa. The Maureen Matheny academy, named for his late friend and “second mother” in B.C., is the first of its kind in Nigeria and will be run through a partnership between the local government and the Igali Foundation. Igali, who raised almost half a million dollars for the project, will remain involved in the school’s development and oversee its mission to provide a solid education for children, a place for community interaction, and a training ground for boys and girls in wrestling and other sports.
