School for International Studies

Simons chair

The faculty of arts and social sciences opened a new school for international studies in 2005 to foster debate on complex issues related to globalization, such as foreign relations, human rights, economic development and international security. To advance that discussion in the classroom and beyond, the Simons Foundation donated $2 million to endow a visiting chair in dialogue on international law and human security. SFU’s Burnaby Mountain endowment fund matched the gift to create a second, permanent chair in this area.
