Graduate Students Earn Prestigious New Scholarships

Six doctoral students received the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Fulbright and U.K. Rhodes scholarships. Winners will receive $50,000 a year for up to three years to support their doctoral studies.

Nadine Deslauriers-Varin (criminology) is studying the hunting processes of high-risk sex offenders.Sai Soe Win Latt (geography) is researching the gigantic Tasang hydroelectric dam project in Burma (Myanmar) supported by the Asian Development Bank. Kim Reeves (psychology) investigates decision-making aids in hospital emergency rooms. Rowan Trebilco (biology) is quantifying the role of top-of-the-food-chain predators in maintaining reef ecosystem resilience. Karen Chan (chemistry) research is working on fuel cells. Alan Cheng (chemistry) focuses on early breast cancer diagnosis.
