Monitoring the Sockeye Food Chain With First Nations

Statistics professor Rick Routledge, with funding from the Tula Foundation, is co-leading a comprehensive program in marine monitoring and research with the goal of advancing the conservation of the natural environment and promoting ecologically sustainable economic activity on the Central Coast of British Columbia. The multi-university team recently shed light on some of the factors that affect the food chain supporting the once-large Rivers Inlet sockeye salmon population. Now he is working closely with the Tula Foundation and the Wuikinuxv First Nation to develop a long-term program for monitoring the inlet food chain. This will provide vital information on the potential recovery of coastal sockeye populations.
