Research That Matters

Regional Centre of Expertise in Sustainable Development Education

David Zandvliet (above), associate professor of education, and Janet Moore, professor in the Undergraduate Semester in Dialogue program, are researching and promoting effective ways of educating people to adopt sustainable environmental practices. They lead the BC Working Group on Education for Sustainable Development, known as Walking the Talk, which this year became one of only eight worldwide chartered United Nations Regional Centres of Expertise. Already, the group has positively influenced policy at the Ministry of Education, says Zandvliet. “There’s a green schools division that didn’t exist before and an environmental framework learning document that is the most downloaded document on the ministry’s site.”
