To SFURA members,
PARTY LIKE IT'S 1884!
Sunday January 13, 2008 at 3 pm the Eybler Quartet will perform at the Vancouver Academy of Music. The program will consist of music from the quartets of four composers who were good friends: Josef Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Baron Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf and and Johann Baptist Vanhal. These men were reported to have performed together at a party given by English composer Stephen Storace in June, 1784. Whether this event actually occurred or not is unimportant, but the members of the Eybler Quartet will do their best to transport us to it.
The Eybler Quartet came together in late 2004 to explore the works of the first century of the string quartet, with a healthy attention given to lesser known composers. The group plays on instruments appropriate to the period of the music it performs.
Violinists Julia Wedman and Aisslinn Nosky and violist Patrick G. Jordan are all members of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. Margaret Gay, violoncello, frequently plays with Tafelmusik and in other Toronto orchestras. Margaret is the daughter of SFURA members Hannah and Ian Gay, and Patrick is her husband.
Tickets will be available only at the door; General, $20, Seniors $15 and Students $10.
