SFURA walk - Wednesday, March 28

Deer Lake Park

The next SFURA walk is Wednesday, March 28 at 10:00 AM at Deer Lake Park. Ted Cohn will lead the walk. The walk is fairly easy, but the route we take has some hills. The walk is umbrella-friendly. You can bring your lunch and eat afterwards in the Shadbolt Centre, or you can buy a lunch at the small informal restaurant there.

DIRECTIONS TO THE MEETING SPOT:

*You can get to the meeting spot either by car or by public transit. We will meet at the West side of the Shadbolt Centre parking lot at the entrance to the gardens.

From the West: Drive east on Canada Way to Deer Lake Parkway. Turn right (south) on Deer Lake Parkway and travel a short distance to Deer Lake Avenue. Turn left (east) on Deer Lake Avenue and park at the large Shadbolt Centre parking lot.

From the East: Drive west on Canada Way to Deer Lake Parkway. Turn left (south) on Deer Lake Parkway and go to Deer Lake Avenue. Turn left (east) on Deer Lake Avenue and park at the Shadbolt Centre parking lot.

You can take public transit to Burnaby City Hall. From there, it is a short one-block walk to the Shadbolt Centre parking lot.

THE ROUTE WE WILL TAKE:

We will turn to the left at Deer Lake, travel around a part of the lake and then climb to an upper trail where there is a good view of the lake and the mountains. We will then walk westward and take the path that goes under Royal Oak Avenue. We will continue westward until the trail ends, and return by a somewhat different route. The walk should take 2 to 2 ½ hours. If there is rain, the walk will be adjusted to fit the weather. If you have questions, contact Ted at cohn@sfu.ca.

*This is a voluntary activity. SFURA assumes no liability for accidents and injuries resulting from the walk.*
