Foreign Debt and Financial Crises

Financial Interest Group Seminar presented by Dr. Ted Cohn

February 28, 2012

Room 114, Halpern Centre, Burnaby Campus.

This talk will examine the political, economic, and social aspects of foreign debt and financial crises. Ted Cohn, who has recently published a book on some aspects of the topic,  will focus primarily on the causes and characteristics of financial crises. Most examples will be taken from the 2007-8 global financial crisis and the sovereign debt problems in the European Union and United States. However, comparisons will also be drawn with earlier crises such as the 1980s foreign debt crisis and the 1990s East Asian financial crisis. Given the current economic uncertainty, this is a very timely topic.
