We think addressing sea level rise in Metro Vancouver is a serious issue that deserves the attention of the best minds in the region. We are excited to offer cash prizes for the winners of RISE. In addition to the judges’ selection, the public will vote online for their favourite idea – see below for more about the People’s Choice Award.

$35,000 Grand Prize winner

The idea with the highest aggregate score across all judging criteria, without scoring negatively for any judging criteria.

$10,000 for each category winner

  • Social Idea
  • Economic Idea
  • Environmental Idea

Winning ideas for each category will be the highest scoring under each related judging criteria, without scoring negatively for any judging criteria. See the judging criteria for more information about category prizes.

$10,000 People’s Choice Award – a public vote

In addition to the above, we are holding back a $10,000 prize for the idea that receives the most votes on the RISE website by 5pm on exhibition day.

By the 8th October 2014, competition entrants will be provided with a link to a page on the RISE website showcasing their idea. Voting on the website will be activated on 9th October, 2014, giving teams approximately 10 days to promote their idea and attract as many public votes as possible. Online voting will close on 19th October 2014 at 5pm, and once the results are verified the winning team will be contacted.

Fame and recognition

When we talk to the media about RISE, we don’t want to talk about us. We want to talk about you. Taking part in RISE offers the opportunity for significant media exposure that could boost your personal and professional profile in Metro Vancouver and beyond. Of course we’ll use our website, social media channels, and partners to promote your great ideas. But we’ll also aim to get you column inches in some of Canada’s and the world’s most respected news media.
