Version 8 Changes and Enhancements

Version 8 of the SAS/ACCESS interface to CA-DATACOM/DB interfaces with base SAS software using a Version 6 compatibility engine. The compatibility engine allows you to create SAS/ACCESS views that are compatible with Version 6 and to use data stored in Version 6 format without converting to Version 8 format. Version 6 provided a full-screen interface for creating and updating descriptor files. The full-screen interface is not supported in Version 8; you can no longer create and update access descriptors and view descriptors by using the Access Descriptor and View Descriptor windows. You must create and update descriptor files using a line-mode interface. The ACCESS procedure and related statements are described in ACCESS Procedure Reference.
