Oct. 25, 2007 - Upcoming General Meeting

To all students in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science:

You are invited to attend the next general meeting of the Statistics and Actuarial Science Association (SASSA):

Time: October 25, 1:30pm
Location: AQ5005
FREE PIZZA AND DRINKS!!!

I encourage all junior students in ACMA210 to attend the meeting. Many of us have had actuarial or statistical co-op work experiences from all over Canada. It will be a great opportunity for you to learn more about the actuarial profession and the SOA/CAS exams, not to mention all the killer courses that you will face after ACMA210 :-).

The agenda for the upcoming meeting is:
1) Networking & Food

2) Update on unresolved issues from previous meeting:

3) Actuarial Students' National Association (ASNA) Conference--January 2008 in Toronto This annual event, which takes place in January, is organized, in rotation, by one of the universities represented within ANEA/ASNA.

More than simply an opportunity for all actuarial students to meet one another during social activities or actuarial games, the convention provides its participants with insightful information about various topics in actuarial science. The topics are presented by professionals in the actuarial field and provide the membership of ASNA with new and interesting information about actuarial science that may otherwise be unavailable in an academic setting. As much as possible, conferences cover most of the aspects of actuarial science and the profession.

We hope to get a head count on who is interested in going to the convention so we can start the registration process and begin requesting travel subsidies from SFSS, Dept of Statistics & Act. Sci., and from ASNA. There will be members who went to the convention last year who will be happy to share their experiences with you.

We are also hoping to have students who would like to get involved in ASNA and participate in one of their committees. Please attend the meeting if you are interested.

4) Semester-End Social SASSA receives funding from SFSS each semester to organize events for YOUR benefit. The dinner last semester was a blast but we are always open to new ideas, let us know if you have one!

5) Motion to reimburse Robbin for refreshments from SASSA funds

6) Open Floor

Please RSVP by October 22 so we can decide on the amount of food to order.
