Merce Cunningham & DanceForms

Following up the Merce 100: Vancouver series of events organized by the SCA's Megan Walker Straight, here's a great short video about the software program LifeForms / DanceForms that was used extensively by iconic modern dance choreographer, Merce Cunningham. The program was developed by Tom Calvert, a professor emeritus in the School of Interactive Arts + Technology. Thecla Schiphorst, a former PhD student of Calvert's and now SIAT faculty, developed it further with choreographer Iris Garland, who co-founded the SCA's dance program. For a deeper dive on this, read this great news piece by the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology's Tessa Perkins Deneault on SFU's NEWS SITE (where our top image is borrowed from).
