Writing about Ascension

Ascension is an annual interdisciplinary collaborative production produced and organized by undergraduate SCA students in the music, dance, theatre production and design, and film areas. On top of everything else required by organizing and coordinated a large scale show like this, Artistic Director Charlotte Telfer-Wan and the other students involved in this year's production – Ascension 2018 – also made a public call for new writing to help situate and promote the event. Here's one result of that call: Ascension: A Discussion Between the Disciplines by SCA student Raitoning Petherick, published online by the The Dance Current. As Petherick argues, Ascension provides participating students with the opportunity to work creatively outside of the "bell jar of expectations" that can accompany regular classwork, letting "students take full control over their work in order to generate a conversation about the merit of interdisciplinary collaboration."
