Dean will show you around the facilities and answer all of your questions. But please note: Our Mini Orientation only supplements the main SFU Orientation at the Burnaby Campus on January 2 from 9:00am to 12:30pm. Don't worry – there's lots of time to get down here by 3:00pm. And please also note: You are not required to attend the main SFU Orientation as well as ours, of course, but if you'd like to, check here for the details: SFU Orientation / Welcome Day.

Community Research Ethics Policy Review

with Am Johal

18 January 2018 – 18 January 2018, 11:00am
4th Floor, 4210, SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 West Hastings Street, Vancouver BC
FREE

Community Research Ethics Policy Review

Please join Am Johal, the Director of SFU’s Vancity Office of Community Engagement, for a review of the SCA's new Community Research Ethics Policy.

The potential ethical questions involved in producing creative work in the arts are not always immediately obvious but still need to be carefully examined, considered, and addressed. Ethical considerations are especially required when producing work that more directly engages with members of the community. In particular, this kind of ethical review is fundamentally required with respect to working with and around the communities living in the neighborhood known as the Downtown Eastside, which is also home to the School for the Contemporary Arts (and indeed Simon Fraser University more generally).

The SCA's new Community Research Ethics Policy can be downloaded HERE.

To learn more about SFU's ethics rules and regulations, contact the Office of Research Ethics.
