Please join us for an artist talk featuring KT Niehoff, a Seattle-based dancer/choreographer. KT will be creating a new work for the November main stage dance production 5 New Works, featuring the SCA repertory dancers. The talk will focus on the history of dance over the last 25 years on the west coast, and the decentralization of eye and image and narration that surrounds us.
KT Niehoff is a Seattle-based choreographer creating immersive performance events and fostering creative communities. Her dance, music and film works have been presented throughout the U.S. at venues including On the Boards, ACT Theatre, Northwest Film Forum, Seattle Art Museum, Joyce SoHo (NYC), The Southern Theater (MPLS), Reed College (PDX), the San Francisco Dance Film Festival, Miami Short Film Festival, New Filmmakers New York and internationally in Japan, Ecuador, Germany and Canada.
KT’s creative pursuits focus on audience-artist proximity, resulting in the majority of her work happening in non-traditional spaces. She aims for a deep connection between the work and those who come into contact with it utilizing duration, proximity (the freedom to stand near, talk to and touch a dancer) and/or direct communication with audiences (dances built on information garnered from the public) as a means to develop a deeper intimacy.
