I walk over the river my Grandmother crossed as she left her home for the last time. The bridge has been rebuilt since then but the crossing remains. I revisit the bedroom of my childhood home, with all of my imagined worlds still held within its corners. I imprint raspberries from my old backyard on my skin in permanent ink, follow the winding trail over a hilltop only seen in photographs, and pace through hallways of mirrored walls. My feet lead me along familiar shores, my arms remembering the pattern of the climb to my treehouse, the sound of cicadas ringing in my ears, the smell of sautéing mushrooms in the evening air.

in several times is a choreography of space, memory, and the body, created with and performed by Marc Arboleda, Kayla DeVos, Gordon Havelaar, Mahaila Patterson O’Brien, and Charlotte Priest, with sound design and composition by Matthew Ariaratnam. Through movement, sound, and the senses, in several times investigates the body’s relationship to memory and space – spaces we’ve been and spaces we have yet to be, spaces we recall and spaces remembered through stories. Memory invisible and memory felt – memories that shape us, that hold our bodies, that our bodies remember, that remember us.
Presented by the School for the Contemporary Arts at SFU.
