Research on the Mountain - Faculty of Science Open House
Saturday, November 21st, 2015
10 am – 3 pm, Burnaby campus
In celebration of SFU’s 50th Anniversary, we’re opening our doors and showcasing some of the basic and applied research that takes place everyday in the eight departments that comprise the Faculty of Science (Biological Sciences, Biomedical Physiology & Kinesiology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Molecular Biology & Biochemistry, Physics and Statistics & Actuarial Science).
Self-guided tours cover 30 different exhibits and labs, including the new Trottier Observatory & Science courtyard and the hyper/hypobaric chamber that simulates extreme conditions for divers and pilots. Take the self-guided tour and experience how space flight affects your blood pressure and how G forces affect your posture, find out how much bacteria lives on your kitchen chopping board, touch sea stars in their tanks, learn how SFU contributes to the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider in CERN, discover how SFU’s genomics research is contributing to the race to cure cancer and meet our talented grad students and scientists.
Visit at least 25 exhibits and enter a draw to win great prizes!
Complimentary parking in “B” lot. Free admission.
