Nancy Cardozo joined the Faculty of Science as Director of Advancement in 2013. Before moving from her native Paraguay, Nancy completed an Electromechanical Engineering degree, and an MBA in addition to holding executive positions in the not-for profit sector. Fundraising formed a substantial part of her position and she discovered that she enjoyed the team work and the enriching process of bringing people together and working towards the realization of a common goal.  "I love to help donors realize their philanthropic goals, there is so much joy in giving and realizing how it significantly impacts  the life of our students, and the research and teaching in our university" she says.

In her spare time, Nancy loves cooking, baking, painting, hiking, reading and especially sharing time with her husband and two children.

Her personal goals are to continue learning and growing, while professionally she looks forward to applying new ideas in the fundraising field and continuing to enable and support SFU faculty and students.

Sharina Janif began working in the Faculty of Science in 2015 but is not a newcomer to SFU.  A native Vancouverite, she completed a BA in SFU's department of History. What she admires most about the Faculty of Science are the Community Outreach programs which are offered free of charge to school-aged children. “I really enjoy telling SFU alumni about our Outreach programs because it has such a positive impact on our youth - inspiring them to pursue Science in high school and even through to university. The Outreach programs empower the kids; they feel that they can succeed in Science classes that are usually thought to be quite difficult.”

Sharina has been deeply involved in local community work but these days spend her spare time with her husband and two young kids. “Right now, we’re focused on trying to get my son and daughter to learn how to ride their bikes!”
