SFU Science in the community

We proudly host free science programs and workshops for teachers, schools, clubs and home schoolers throughout Metro Vancouver. Through the educational Science in Action program, special events such as Science Spooktacular and Science Rendezvous, talks like Cafe Scientifiqueand star gazing events at the Trottier Observatory, we serve thousands of our community members.

Engaging with the public is a cornerstone of SFU's mandate and our offerings grow yearly to meet demand. Feel free to browse our programs and nurture your inner scientist!

The Trottier Observatory and Science Courtyard is an integral part of the Trottier Studio for Innovative Science Education. Both facilities are uniquely dedicated to bringing science education and astronomy to children, youth and the general public.

Trottier family

The Trottier Observatory and Science Courtyard as well as the Trottier Studio for Innovative Science Education form a seamless partnership between the mission of the Trottier Family Foundation and SFU’s goal to engage with its community.

Nestled within the heart of the Burnaby campus, the Trottier Observatory is the flagship facility in the Faculty of Science’s myriad outreach programs.

Starry nights

Since its inception in 2007, the Starry Nights program has brought thousands of star-gazers, including children and youth, to campus to peruse the night skies and learn about astronomy.

Public access to the Trottier Observatory is available during Starry Nights @ SFU parties. These events are open to the public and are weather-dependent.

We plan to host a Star Party every Friday evening, however, our weather doesn't always cooperate. Please follow us on Twitter @sfutrottobs for up to date information.

You can also email starry-nights-request@sfu.ca to join our Starry Nights maillist and receive updates on upcoming events.
