Technology is continually evolving for security applications and SFU has actively implemented electronic devices to heighten the security profile of the campus. The field of security systems includes electronic access control (card access), intrusion alarm systems, closed circuit television (CCTV) and computer-based applications which contribute to improving personal safety and asset management.
Working cooperatively with a panel of stakeholders which include Facilities Services and IT Services, Campus Security is responsible to actively shape the development and commissioning of all security systems on campus. Using the expertise of these partners on campus, we are able to ensure a complete solution that integrates with the University. This responsibility applies to any department/location specific device as well as the enterprise wide direction of systems development and migration.
Security Systems allow for 24 hour central monitoring of the campus from our staffed communications centre. This live monitoring ensures timely response as incidents occur. Additionally, from a risk management perspective, departments opting to install security systems reap financial benefits as insurance claim deductibles are reduced significantly.
