Margo Moore will show us how Tablet PCs can be used to deliver Powerpoint lectures. Essentially, this method enables the instructor to write directly on the slide in real time and enforces note taking by students. This is an excellent approach to engaging students and enhances attendance and participation in lectures.
Conceptually similar to iClicker technology, Top Hat Monocle is a Canadian web-based interactive classroom and homework tool that works with devices that are already owned by students (smartphone, tablet, laptop). A company representative will give us a hands-on demonstration of this system.
We often include discussion as part of our course design, but these can end up with mixed results. In this conversation, we will break down the role of discussion in learning, identify attributes of a ‘good’ discussion and develop strategies to facilitate student discussions so as to maximize learning.
