Students help boost culinary school

As you may have seen through Twitter, our new Facebook fan page, or through posters on campus, SFU Volunteer Services has started a new campaign to increase awareness of our services and, hopefully, to encourage students to examine what issues they are passionate about and how they can contribute. We interviewed many different students who are actively involved in bettering their communities and one student, Ashish Gurung, who will be featured this summer in more posters around campus, was recently involved with a project that got some coverage with SFU Public Affairs and Media Relations.

Ashish is the president of SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise), a student run organization that uses the skills of its members to provide voluntary consulting services to community based organizations in need of assistance.  Their most recent project saw them working with the Kla- how-eya Aboriginal Centre and its Culinary Arts and Catering Services program to develop a new strategic plan. The Centre is now flourishing–and it is all thanks to the skills and expertise of SFU’s students.
