Students Offering Support (SOS) is a national student-led charity which has chapters in 14 universities across Canada. SOS volunteers coordinate and run group exam review sessions in exchange for a $20 donation. At the end of the year, the money raised goes towards the funding of education-based sustainable development projects in Latin America, built by SOS volunteers on outreach trips.
Over the last 5 years, 500+ SOS volunteers have raised over $340,000 for 9 education based development projects, built by SOS volunteers on outreach trips. The student leaders that make up SOS have demonstrated their ability to create positive change for their peers as well as communities in Latin America.
The SOS model is unique as it is truly sustainable and does not rely on donations and external funding; student volunteers raise money, by raising marks, to raise roofs.
If you are looking for an enriching volunteer experience that allows you to see the impact you can have on changing the world that you live in, then you definitely want to volunteer with SOS! Check out SFU Chapter’s website here: http://www.simonfrasersos.com/.
