Burnaby Meals on Wheels

Burnaby Meals on Wheels (BMW) is looking for volunteers to be meal deliver drivers. This program assists elderly and diabled individuals who are unable to prepare their own meals. This service is both a therapeutic and a preventive health measure and ensures that the clients see a friendly visitor that can check in in case of a possible emergency situation. Essentially, BMW provides a cost effective means for physically inable individuals to maintain a healthy diet without incurring the large costs associated with personal nursing assistants or other privatized life-aid organizations

In order to volunteer:

-You must be able two hours a week either Monday, Wednesday, or FridaYou must have your own vehicle
-Have excellent interpersonal skills
-Be able to work with a minimum of supervision
-Be able to accept direction and guidance
-Be Able to read road maps
-Be a reliable vehicle/valid drivers license
-Have a criminal record check

A BMW volunteer has the following responsibilities:

-To understand the purpose of the BMW program
-To be willing to learn and participate in training programs
-To be open and welcoming to new volunteers
-To participate in the orientation and training of new volunteers as needed
-To work cooperatively with the program coordinator, and accept guidance and leadership
-To communicate with the program coordinator regarding issues
-To implement improvements and see that they are used to their full advantage
-To be willing to deliver to any assigned route to any

All volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage and gas expenses involving the use of their vehicle.
