Volunteer with Volunteer Burnaby

For nearly forty years, Volunteer Burnaby has been enriching the lives of volunteers and citizens building community through volunteering. It functions as a primary resource for volunteer involvement in Burnaby/New Westminster and the surrounding regions by providing services in four core competencies. Volunteer Burnaby’s four areas of focus are promoting volunteerism, building capacity for local volunteering, connecting people to their community, and providing leadership on volunteer related issues.

First, VB promotes volunteerism in the community by hosting volunteer fairs in post-secondary institutions, using the media, at local festivals, and in malls to increase the awareness of volunteerism and its opportunities. Second, they build volunteering infrastructure in the local non-profit sector by offering training in volunteer management, fund-raising, and board development. Third, VB connects people with organizations by informing the community using press releases and by maintaining a large organization database containing potential volunteer opportunities. Finally, they provide relevant social leadership by partnering with local, provincial, and national organizations in order to expand their scope and increase their resources. All four areas enable VB to facilitate greater community involvement and, therefore, greater change.

VB facilitates growth in the non-profit sector by connecting individual volunteers and corporations with local community initiatives. Individuals gain experience in specific fields of interest, acquiring knowledge and growth. In addition, corporations can improve their triple bottom line of economic, social, and environmental results by partnering with a non-profit organization, helping develop the community in which they operate.
