Woodwards 2 Media Camps

Are you interested in Media Arts or helping youth learn about social technologies? W2 (Woodward’s 2) is offering professionally taught, interactive youth workshops from July 26th to August 25th from 9:30am to 4:00pm.  These camps are intended to increase youth participation in modern technical arts, advancing the skills they need to produce technical art and alternative forms of media.  This program needs volunteers to aid with the logistics involved in teaching youth media literacy

W2 is a Community Media Arts Society located in the historic heart of the city, Gastown, and is currently holding operations in the Storyeum building across the street from the new Woodward’s complex. The W2 is a cultural institution dedicated to providing individuals and communities with access to technology, learning, production and distribution.

Creative Tech Summer Camps are taught by professional Vancouver artists.  Available workshops include contemporary media arts including filmmaking, music production, sound art, digital photography and letterpress printmaking, as well as more traditional technical arts like letterpress and street art.

W2 will provide all the equipment and software necessary for the workshops.  The program is in partnership with Simon Fraser University’s School for Contemporary Arts and provides the media lab with the most current technology. These workshops are the perfect opportunity for SFU students to learn about current and traditional art practices in an artist run centre.

If you can’t attend the camps, you can still get involved. W2 is looking for volunteers aged 16 and up to help with workshop logistics. If you have relevant experience with media arts or just have a keen interest in any of the topics, please email Cris Costa at:  cris@creativetechnology.org
