Here are just a few of the many volunteer positions that they offer:
- Ambassador Program: This program allows gallery ambassadors to work in the lobby and greet and direct visitors on the various exhibitions. Ambassadors can also participate in special events such as FUSE.
- Art Agent: Here, volunteers work together with the staff to help organize early art encounters for young children in a fun and whimsical environment. This is great if you’d like to get experience working with children.
- Docent Program: Again, if you love working with kids, this is a great opportunity. This position consists of a six month training program that prepares all the volunteers to lead school tours throughout the various art exhibitions. This is a wonderful way to interact with children and show off your leadership skills.
- Tour Liaison/Workshop Assistant: These volunteers would welcome and prepare school groups for their visit to the gallery as well as help out during the art-making workshops.
These are just some of the various volunteer positions that are available at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Plenty more opportunities are available including positions in the gallery store and the marketing, development, registration, and photography departments. With the wide variety of options available, I’m sure there will be something suitable for everyone.
So, if you would like to gain some knowledge of the art world or just volunteer in a fun, out-going atmosphere, check out all the information at http://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca/get_involved/volunteer.html.
