SFU Scouts Group is part of Scouts Canada, a national organization dedicated to providing guidance and mentorship for young boys and girls, ages 5 to 14. The organization works to educate young people to become both self reliant in the outdoors, and socially aware in their society and community.
Established in 2006, SFU Scouts Group consists of volunteer staff, parents and students. These volunteers not only mentor and guide youth, but they are also responsible for the planning of activities, events, and programs that will promote personal development and challenge youth. Types of events, activities and programs include “Clean Up Day” (which involves Scouts collecting cans and bottles around campus as they become more environmentally aware), Games and Crafts activities, Emergency Preparation, as well as science and camping-outdoors focused programs, all of which require Youth Leaders to help lead and facilitate.
The position of Youth Leader is ideal for those who are looking to get involved with an adventuresome, social, educational and fun-filled organization that mentors and guides youth to become better citizens. SFU Scouts Group also offers training (i.e. first aid, food safety and leadership training) and opportunities for other employment within the organization (overseas projects). Those of you who are looking for an opportunity to extensively exercise leadership and responsibility, and/or are planning to work with kids in the near future, this position is a great way to hone your professional and practical skills. Apply for this position today!
Regular meetings are held on Fridays from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Faculty of Education Building, Room 7600.
