At this year’s Volunteer & Civic Engagement Fair, I had the chance to meet some of the folks from Shark Truth. In case you didn’t know yet, Shark Truth is a not-for-profit consumer awareness group that seeks to engage consumers in a collaborative discussion to find alternatives to shark fin soup. The organization is founded by Claudia Li, an SFU Business alumnus, and has already received some media coverage, including one recently from the Vancouver Sun.
At the fair, I talked to Kevin Huang, one of the researchers for the organization. The sound quality of my video interview with Kevin wasn’t good, but here’s a transcript of what we talked about:
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your organization?
A: We are Shark Truth. We are a non-profit conservation organization trying to stop the detrimental effects of the shark fin industry by working with, instead of against, consumers.
Q: What kind of volunteer opportunities are available for students at Shark Truth?
A: Currently we have two positions open, which are for Cantonese Communications Specialist — who will bring our marketing communications material to the Cantonese community — as well as for a graphic designer.
