As children, many of our memories of elementary school are from our beloved recess. Hanging upside down on the jungle gym, getting splinters, seeing how high you can go on the swings – these are memories that are pretty common for all elementary school kids. Now, imagine you never had the chance to enjoy all the excitements of a playground? University Highlands Elementary students will be losing this experience if there isn’t any help.
It’s been left up to parent to raise funds for a new playground at University Highlands Elementary and it could take years to raise enough funds solely through traditional methods. However, the parents of the elementary school have aimed high by entering a national competition for building better communities across Canada. This competition is sponsored by Aviva Insurance. There were more than 1700 ideas submitted across Canada for this competition and the school’s parent group was just one of 90 that were chosen to continue on to the semi-finals.
What now? December 2nd to 15th, there is a free voting process that will determine who the winner is.
What will happen if University Highlands Elementary wins?
- They will receive a share of the $1 M dollar fund
- This money will allow them to purchase a playground that fits the unique themes and surroundings of the school
What can we all do?
- Register online at the Aviva Fund to receive 10 votes (you can vote 10 times per day) between December 2nd and 15th – Voting costs nothing!
