Front Row at the Film Festival

Every year I get excited when the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) and the Documentary Film Festival (DOXA) roll around.  I’m a huge documentary buff so I get extra excited when I start to check out the DOXA film schedule – this year’s lineup being no exception.  DOXA runs from May 6-15th this year.  The films screen at a variety of cinemas including Vancity Theatre, Park Theatre, Rio Theatre, Vogue Theatre, and Pacific Cinémathèque.

Different ticket packages are available, but a smart alternative would be taking part as a volunteer at DOXA. Volunteers are needed before and during the film festival  The volunteer positions include: selling memberships, ticket collection, working the will call table, ensuring guests are in the right line ups, setting up reception, greeting guests, chauffeuring guests, and distributing festival information around the city.

In exchange for their 20 hours of time, volunteers receive a film festival pass equivalent to $125 dollars.  Even if you can just donate a few hours of time, you can still score a pair of tickets.  For any avid documentary fans, it’s a great opportunity to get involved and catch some films.  Hope to see you at the screenings!
