April 22, 2011 marked the 20th anniversary of Earth Day – a day of celebrating and pro moting education and awareness for our environment.
As the day was approaching , I’d gotten to thinking about some of the changes that I can easily make in my own life to do my part and save our beautiful earth. They are just little changes that make a great difference.
· Walking/biking instead of driving: This change will not only reduce the emissions that I put out into the atmosphere, but help me maintain a healthier life. As the weather gets warmer, it’s a great excuse to spend more time outside and within walking distance of hidden gems in my community.
· Turning off the lights: I know this seems like an obvious one, but I sometimes forget! I’m (still) making an effort to shut off the lights every time I leave a room because it really adds up. (This applies to my computer screen as well!)
· Switching to cold water when doing my laundry: This little change saves quite a bit of energy and doesn’t impact the cleanliness of my clothes. (Even doing 3 out of 4 loads in cold water makes a difference.)
By starting with a few changes like these, I’m hoping to continue finding new and environmentally beneficial activities that contribute to a healthy lifestyle and a more livable Earth.
Hopefully making the switch to being more environmentally conscious will positively affect your life as well.
