Love of Reading

I have a Love of Reading. Books are profoundly important to me! As a child, I grew up in the diverse worlds of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Madeleine L’Engle and J.K. Rowling, among others. My love of the written word began with school assignments and quickly turned into a devoted habit that took up a big chunk of my free time and habituated me in my school’s library. Go figure – I turned out to be an English major.

If it weren’t for the abundance of books that were available to me at school, I wouldn’t have lost myself in the adventures of characters and learned lessons from their teachings.

To my surprise, I’ve discovered that many schools in Canada are without sufficient books in their libraries. It seems unfair to deprive children of a chance to experience fantasy worlds and exciting stories.

Indigo has become involved in turning this reality upside down and in providing Canadian elementary schools with books for their libraries through their Love of Reading Program.

Love of Reading strives to provide children with a chance to reach their full potential by incorporating books into libraries that are in need. Specifically, the children need books to fill their libraries and for class project work. Early childhood literacy is an amazing gift and one that has put me in university today.

To become involved, simply donate to this cause or purchase a Love of Reading Product, with all proceeds going to the foundation. Since its inception, this mission has raised over $9 million for elementary schools across Canada, but there is always more that can be done!

Please help and provide the gift of reading to children in need of achievement through reading.
