WHEN: September 20, 2011 from 11:00am-4:00pm
WHERE: Convocation Mall (Burnaby Campus)
WHY: Sustainability Week
From September 19-23, a week long event celebrating sustainability at SFU called the Sustainability Week happens. There will be a poster competition, the sustainability festival and much more!
The Sustainability Festival was created “to inspire our community to learn about sustainability issues and provide them with the tools to both develop and integrate solutions into their daily lives” which basically means that it gives us the knowledge to make that choice, that necessary option, in order to “turn the sustainability movement into a mainstream lifestyle choice” (Aleksandra Nasteska, We Canada).
The festival aims to inspire, educate, engage and entertain the campus community by shedding light on the complexities of sustainability problems, inspiring people to celebrate and integrate solutions into their daily lives and empowering them to make this step by providing them with tools and resources. Given that a 5 hour lecture on sustainability might not be everyone’s cup of tea (albeit it works with me) the Sustainability Festival provides numerous outlets of fun and exciting events such as an eco-fashion show, live music and most important of all FREE FOOD! What more can you ask, free knowledge and free food not to mention freeing the world from the clasps of over-consuming.
Want to win up to $300 ($200 for undergraduate)? SFU graduate and undergraduate students are invited to share their climate change-related research at the SFU Sustainability Festival. The application deadline is at September 6th, 2011 with many topics for undergraduates to choose from, ranging from “Climate Change and its impacts” to “Clean energy”. There is even a topic on “Sustainable Communities” such Vancouver. Graduate students who sign up for the event also have the opportunity to showcase their research to the SFU Community. This September 20th, do it for the world. We can make a difference.
