Physics whiz wins 100k scholarship
Physics PhD student Michel Trottier-McDonald has received a $105,000 Alexander Graham Bell Graduate Scholarship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to support his doctoral research in high-energy physics. Trottier-McDonald has been involved for the last three years in the ATLAS particle physics experiment at the Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland. His work is aimed at finding evidence of a hypothetical mechanism that gives mass to the fundamental particles of all matter, particularly the Higgs boson, a massive elementary particle predicted to exist by the Standard Model of particle physics.
